Every year the majority of people make New Year's Resolutions. The biggest New Years Resolution as we all know is to........ LOSE WEIGHT!!!!! So many people pay for gym memberships and they hit the gym hard and heavy for about a month and then they are back to their status quot.
So I encourage anyone who is reading this that wants to lose weight in the New Year to refrain from getting a gym membership and/or costly work out equipment and start light with a fitness DVD, some free weights, medicine ball, stability ball....the basics that can be purchased for under $100. Then realistically set a work out goal, commit to it, and change your diet as well and go for it.
Everyday when you wake up speak life into the thinner healthier you by repeating a positive mantra!
Another resolution people have is to save more money. Well in order to save more you have to spend less! I challenge all of my readers to live below their means, to deny themselves temporary pleasures for long term gains. For those who say they cannot save, cut out fast food, Starbucks, some guilty pleasure, heck down grade your cell phone package or your cable bill.
My personal approach is to make life changes therefore I resolve not to make any New Year's Resolutions. As I make them year after year and to no avail but that is just me.
I realize where there is a will there is a way and that all things, I repeat ALL THINGS are possible with God!
So if you are making New Years Resolutions I encourage you to write them down and read them daily as if they have already been accomplished (speak those things that be not as though they are) and go forward in faith knowing that it is already done!
Have a blessed New Year's Eve and New Year!!!!!!

'Tis The Season
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
Let us not forget that Jesus is the reason for this season. It is not about gift giving or receiving it is about remembering the birth of Jesus and how through his birth, life, and death the world as we know it changed. Our lives were spared and saved before we even knew who we were!
Everyday you should give thanks unto God and remember Jesus. This time is a great time to speak to a non-believer by sharing the birth of Jesus and showing love and compassion to them.
So many people get stressed out during this time because they cannot give/buy for others or because they are without a natural family here on earth.
Jesus is the Reason for the Season. He is a mother, father, doctor, lawyer, whatever you need when you need it, He is EVERYTHING!
John 10:10 10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
John 1:1 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Matthew 28:18 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Colossians 2:3 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Hebrews 2:17 17 For this reason he had to be made like them,[a] fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.
John 14:6 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

SCRIPTURES TO HELP WITH FAMILY TIME, THANKSGIVING
Meditation Scriptures for this Holiday Season
Just a start of some things to meditate on to ensure your family gatherings are blessed and peaceful!
Psalm 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Romans 12:17-18 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Ephesians 6:12 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
James 3:6 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by.

CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE: THE FINALE
If you have been keeping up with this particular topic on my blog, yesterday I left off uneasy and left a message for the finance manager to remove the gap insurance and that I would bring in the check from Capitol One and use them for financing.
Well a little after 9:30A yesterday, I received a voice mail from the finance manager that stated he'd gotten me financed at 1.5% and that I could come in and sign the new paperwork!!!!!!
So I started off with 3.5% with Capitol One and ended up with 1.5% from the dealer (again all #'s are made up but relative to reality!).
Last night, I went in to the dealership signed my new paperwork and I will be paying less than $500 total in interest on my car!!!!!!!
As I stated in my 1st email, Rule #1 Do your research and be prepared!!!!

CAR BUYING TAKE 2: BEWARE OF THE FINANCE MANAGER
So I picked up my new car yesterday. My thought was that I was picking up the car and signing the paperwork a quick fast and easy process.
Oh how wrong was I, when I sat down with the finance manager he had a paper offering a platinum, gold, silver, and bronze package. These packages would add up to thousands on my finance amount and potentially a hundred dollars plus to my car note.
For what you ask? An extra warranty, lo jack, gap, and a couple other services that I can't remember but I'd already determined I didn't need! And yes he described each and every package. When I declined of course he wanted to go back and forth as to why I didn't want it and how it was such a great offer and so necessary. I am buying a brand new car that is under warranty if it breaks down that is a problem and these cars are dependable vehicles so why would I need such things on a quality car?
For example the lo jack he went on to say how people steal parts from hybrid cars and blah, blah, blah...and my car could potentially get stolen and the police would find it with in 90 minutes blah, blah, blah!
It got to a point where I almost sat my religion aside, I told the man, look I am tired and ready to go home, I do not want it.
Did he give up? No he kept going well what if I give you this and it will only be an additional $2 on your car note. Admittedly I finally said yes so I could get the heck up out of there but I did read the fine print that said I have 30 days to cancel no harm no foul. That extra $2/month on my note was adding $800 to the total amount I am financing.
I couldn't sleep last night, as soon as I woke up this morning I called the finance manager to inform him that I didn't want the gap. I also sent an email. On top of that my spirit is so uneasy that I have decided not to use there financing as they were still playing a numbers game last night and will go through with the financing that I obtained before I chose a car!
So, the persistence of the finance manager just lost the dealership more money because I will not be financing through the dealer and definitely won't be getting gap as my financing doesn't cover that anyway!!!!

Don’t Let Your Head Override Your Heart
Posted by Joel Osteen on November 15th, 2010
I remember when I was a little boy back in the 1960's, we moved into a brand new house on the north side of Houston close to the new airport. All that was around us were trees and big open fields. There were only a few houses in our whole neighborhood, and right behind our property, there were two, one-acre lots that my father really wanted to buy. He felt very strongly about it. He could purchase them for practically nothing, about $2,000 an acre. My father told the man that built our house what he wanted to do and that builder said, "Why would you want to do that? This property is not going anywhere. Plus, you're going to have a bunch of taxes and upkeep. That wouldn't be a good investment at all." My father thought, "Well, he's the expert. I guess he knows what he is talking about." But the whole time, there was an alarm going off inside telling my father, "Don't listen to him. This is a God-given opportunity. Purchase the property." In his heart, my father knew he was supposed to do it, but he made the mistake of letting his head override his heart. He let the so-called "expert" talk him out of it.
Twenty years later, all the houses in that neighborhood were built. There were no more empty lots. That property increased in value 50 times what my father could have bought it for. It went from $2,000 an acre to $100,000 an acre. My father was kicking himself the whole time.
The point I'm making is that God has already placed within your reach everything you need to be victorious. He's given you the right opportunities and the right connections. Sometimes, like my father, we let people talk us out of our God-given opportunities. Sometimes, because things seem ordinary, we miss what God wants to do. Today, I'm asking you to look around at what you have and see the God-given opportunities with your eyes of faith. Don't let your head override your heart. Even when things don't make sense in the natural realm, follow the promptings in your heart. The solution you are looking for is within your reach, so take a step of faith today and trust that God has blessing in store for your future!

MY CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE: TIPS AND LESSONS
Rule #1 - Do your research, the Internet is a powerful tool with a wealth of resources use it!
Lesson #1 - You will get a better quoted price for a new or used vehicle through the Internet.
(all numbers used are hypothetical but relative to the truth!)
So....I started off on Yahoo! Autos comparing and looking at cars. Through Yahoo! Auto I was able to contact dealers to request quotes for vehicles that I was interested in purchasing and discuss pricing with Internet managers of dealerships via email.
While in this process I contacted my bank as they offer auto financing and a couple of others sources to get pre-approved/financed before entering the dealer. My bank gave me a rate of 5%. Another source gave me a rate of 3.5%. I also pulled my own credit report and obtained my credit score.
I took my current vehicle to the dealership for some repairs and while waiting on my car to be washed I browsed the showroom and found a car that sparked my interest.
I went back online and compared the Honda Hybrid to the Toyota Prius and leaned more toward purchasing the Honda Hybrid (what can I say I am brand loyal).
Once I decided on the Honda Hybrid I obtained a quote last week from Dealer #1. The quote was decent about $2K below the MSRP nevertheless my plan was to negotiate as I had a set figure in mind of lets say $14000 where I wanted to start the negotiating. The email also said in bold that if I had a quote lower than there's they would beat the difference by 5%.
So yesterday, that small voice told me to request quotes from other dealers. Dealer #2 quoted less than Dealer #1. Dealer #3 came in with a quote less than Dealer 2 and Dealer 1. And then here came Dealer #4 with a quote less than Dealers 1-3 and it was only $400 more than my starting price point for negotiations!
Dealer #4 quoted a price of $14, 493 for a car with a sticker price of $18, 590. Not bad in my opinion. Not only that I checked Kelly Blue Book value and the Fair Market Value for the car was $16,550. All of the dealers quoted lower than fair market value yet 1 dealer came within the range that I was willing to pay.
MY DEALERSHIP EXPERIENCE
So I went to the dealership with my folder that included my credit score, price quotes, the email I received from the Internet manager, my calculator, and all necessary documentation.
Of course the Internet Manager that I scheduled an appointment with was not there and didn't tell me she wasn't going to be there!
Of course the color that I asked the Internet Manager specifically did they have in stock she said yes, however, once I arrived to the dealership I discovered it was not at their particular location but they could get it for me!
Sigh.....let the sales game begin
Before the test drive the salesman asked to make a copy of my license. I read on a site that you do not have to give them a copy of your license and while they have your license they are running your credit report. The aha moment for me is that my SS# isn't on my license so that would be a little difficult to pull off. I also found that you should make copies of your license yourself and take it with you.
Ok so the salesman asked where I work and how long I'd been working there (of course he is trying to figure out my income, no problem). We get back to the dealership he asked do I have the quote from the Internet manager for $15, 999. I pull out the email. He goes and speaks with someone and comes back now its time to assess my trade-in. He comes back and tells me they are willing to give me $1K for my trade in (now that # is real). I tell him no thanks I will keep my car. Hell I can sell parts of my car and get more than $1K total!!!!!!!
FINANCING
He asked will I be financing through the dealership. I tell him if they can give me a better rate than the 3.5% Capitol One Auto Financing offered me than I would consider it. His eyes almost jumped out of his head, he said 3.5% that is low for Capitol One! The salesman leaves comes back and says. Your car note will be $550/month. Um....question...you came and quoted me a car note yet you didn't tell me what percentage I'd been financed at nor the terms. Nor do you have any paperwork in your hand.
Keep in mind we have not negotiated the price of the car.
NOTE: JUST BECAUSE YOU RECEIVE AN INTERNET QUOTE THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU DON'T NEGOTIATE WHEN YOU ARRIVE TO THE DEALER.
I then ask the sales man well the email says that you beat the competitor with 5% difference if they undercut your quote. He says yes, do you have something lower. I say yes and pull out my email with a quote of $14, 493 which is $1,506 lower than what I was quoted by them plus when you add in the 5% difference it comes to $1,581 lower than the $15, 999 which comes to a new quote of $14, 418.
So the sales man sees the quote of $14, 493 and says wow this is low, how was he able to quote you a price this low. I think this is a quote for the LX and not the EX. I say no the email specifically says it is an EX quote and I also have the email on my phone! Then the sales man appears a bit agitated and says well what is your offer for the car. I say in all fairness my offer is the difference + 5%.
So, that is what happened I purchased a car on the sticker with a MSRP of $18, 590 for $14,418 which was fine by me as my starting negotiating was going to be at $14,000. Could the price have went lower OF COURSE, did I get the best deal possible, PROBABLY NOT, did I get the best deal for me that fit my budget, my purchase price, and my car note amount I am willing to pay ABSOLUTELY!
Helpful Websites:
http://beatthecarsalesman.com/school/step5-10.html
http://www.carbuyingtips.com/car4.htm
There are a host of other websites out there and tools you can use to calculate car notes based on financing and purchases out there I encourage you to use them. My experience was much better than driving around to different dealers trying to find the best rate (what I did when I bought my 1st car over 10 years ago!). My experience was haggle free and it took about 2 hours. I do have to go back and actually pick up the car and go through with the financing however I have decided to stick with Capitol One and not go through the dealer as I am choosing to be obedient to the Spirit on that!
I pray that some of this has been helpful. Feel free to comment and email with any questions you may have epiphanyessentials@yahoo.com

Black Girls Rock was founded by Beverly Bond and as she said last night it started off as just a t-shirt yet it sparked an idea for her to spotlight and showcase African American women and girls making a difference in the community. Black Girls Rock also helps Black girls and women boost their self-esteem and find the will within to succeed by realizing they are all special!
It was inspiring and motivating showcase highligting African American women of all age. If you missed it you may want to catch the show the next time around.

THEY WANTED TO SEND MY KINDERGARTNER TO A MENTAL INSTITUTION!
As a mother I was excited and nervous as this is my sons 1st year of Kindergarten. Academically I wasn't concerned as he is an extremely bright child and anyone who knows him will tell you that. So his first 4 days at the new school were good after all he came home with the highest color. That Friday, I was told Remington kicked, scratched, punched and spit on one of his teachers and that he was suspended that Monday. OMG...so the next week he returns to school and has more not so good days than good days and I must meet with superintendents, principals and teachers. All I was hearing was Remington slapped the teacher, he punched the principal...Remington, Remington, Remington.
I took all his priviledges away eg. TV, dining out, listening to the popular radio stations, use discipline and time outs everything to no avail. Then his father stepped in and he went to stay with his dad. He had a turn around and was spending more time in the classroom than out as prior to we would be called around 9/10A after dropping him off at 8A to come and pick him up because he attacked a teacher or a student.
As parents his father and I were very receptive to what the school staff was telling us. We also understood that while he is not a perfect child the behavior he exhibited at school was to an extreme we'd never experienced so we weren't sure how to handle the situation at home to curb his behavior at school.
We talked to him we tried just about everything. We had family members telling us to seek counseling. As a woman of faith and a Christian woman I was praying, I even wrote out scriptures that he and I would recite in the morning before school and I had him saying positive affirmations as I believe there is power in the spoken word.
The final meeting I attended at the school his dad asked maybe he isn't being challenged here, maybe it is something the school is doing that isn't working for him, and maybe he just has an issue with white people. That was the first time he was around so many at one time and their approach to discipline was slightly different than ours. I remember the Principal telling me he won't go into time out so we will start him off at like 2 minutes. I told her thats odd because he understands what time out is, he sat in time out for 10 15 minutes at home as it gets extended when he cries/whines while in time out. I told her he understands what it is and is capable of going to time out! When we became to question the school and their ability to handle Remington, at that point the school seemed to be less of a Remington advocate and more against him and us! I received a call that a counselor was available to meet with him and I was all for it.
Come to find out the counselor was from Hartgrove Medical Clinic. They wanted to send Remington there for 2 weeks in lieu of school to figure out what was "wrong" with him. Hartgrove is a mental institution. Initially we agreed and then we quickly changed our minds as we thought as parents the boy has yet to see a therapist and the school hasn't changed any of the methods they use to deal with our child. I also refuse to allow my son to be given any medication and I cannot control what is done to him when I am not present. Then matters became worst at the school. They were painting our son to be a monster who had a mental problem and viewing us as unfit parents unwilling to explore all possibilites which was absolutely and utterly false.
In the midst of all of this I was praying for my son, speaking life into the situation and even laying hands on him. I also attended Living Word Christian Center and the Pastor laid hands on a little boy and told his mom to read Psalm 91 over him for 7 days. Although Remington was at his dads house I read Psalm 91 as in the spirit space and time do not exist! Then I realized that I had to increase my faith in the situation. For I was praying and speaking life but I was still full of worry and doubt. Finally I watched Creflo Dollar and he spoke and said sometimes you just have to plead the blood over a situation and then shut up and I did just that.
We also transferred him to another school and we have seen a complete turn around in him as he has been able to stay in class/school all day from start to finish. Yes he had a few bumps in the road but overall he has done a 150 degree turn around and the full 180 degree turn around is on the way! I am confident and assured of that in faith!!!!
I share this for this reason. I recognize that I am raising a black boy that will turn into a black man. His school which consisted primarily of white faculty was quick to put a label on my child and even willing to send him to a mental institution. They even told us if the counselor had to come back out and decided that he needed to be hospitalized that is what they were going to do! That is the point when his father and I knew he needed to attend a new school.
As parents understand that you have options. Be realistic with what is going on with your child and be willing to seek help. Nevertheless don't take at complete face value what someone tells you about your child especially when you know it is outside of their chracter. We have options and rights and our first responsibility is to be an advocate for our children. They need to be confident and reassured that their parents have their back and are there for them at all times.

OUR BLACK BOYS THEIR EDUCATION & OUR FUTURE
I will start this blog off with a snippet of an article by Steve Perry in the November issue of Essence Magazine.
"Educator Steve Perry says parents must take a bold stand to reverse the shocking number of Black males who aren't graduating with their class.
Its a wake-up call that every Black parent should hear: more than HALF of our boys didn't graduate from high school in 2008. Overall 53% of young brothers in the United States didn't graduate on time, and the numbers were alarmingly high for those who didn't march in a cap and gown in New York, Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia."
Statistics from the article: 98% of black boys graduate in the state of Maine, 28% of black boys graduated in the state of New York!
I am not sure how many black boys graduate in the state of Illinois however I do know that the high school graduate rate in the city of Chicago over all is between 48 to 52%.
I am the mother of a black boy and the auntie to 3 black boys. I am confident and secure in knowing that all 4 of them will graduate high school as well as college/trade school and go on to become professionals and entrepreneurs (that is my faith speaking).
However it is not enough for me or anyone else to take on the me and mine mentality. We have to take a genuine concern for others and ensure that their needs are being met. Of course there isn't a quick fix answer and I will not pretend that I have one.
While I don't agree with the me and mine it does start at home, educate your children, read to them from birth, teach them colors, letters, etc. even before they begin to speak. With the knowledge that many of the schools in our communities are sub par it is our responsibility as parents to find every resource that is available to us and use them. Not relying on the excuse of blaming the school system.
Reach out and volunteer, give of your time and talents to help others. Visit shelters, find out about programs in and around your community and beyond. Right now I am the pen pal to a little boy in another state through www.in2books.com I paid a $6.95 fee so they could do a background check and I now read and discuss books every school year with a child. Reading is an important and necessary tool. There is a govenor that predicts his future prison population off of 3rd graders reading scores!
The black man is essential and vital to the black family and the black community. The family unit is important in society in general.
We as African Americans sometimes wonder why we have not advanced more as a people. Of course many of us have advance and great strides have been made after all Obama is President. Since he has taken office police crimes against black males have risen (taken from Louis Farrakhan talk), the Tea Party has emerged and those who were closet racist have come out of the closet.
So while there are African Americans that can say oh we have made great gains...there is still work to do which is evident in the graduation rate of our black males. Yes all children are capable of learning and succeeding, New Hampshire boasts a 83% graduate rate for black boys which is higher than the 78% of white counterparts.
That is evidence in itself that all of our children are capable of learning. If given the proper tools and the right head start from their parents our children can learn, excel, compete, and function in society.
Unless we as a race address the attack on our black men we as a race will always lag behind. It is time to take action, get involved and care for our future and the future of the generations to come after us.

Who Sent the Storm: A Personal Lesson on Faith and Fear
Today I sent my sister and email apologizing to her for something that I said last year. Why did I send her an apology now? I felt it was necessary and because I have learned and grown. See at the time what I said to her I felt was right, justified and made sense. Now as I am growing in the spirit of God, knowledge and wisdom I realize that I was completely wrong.
Why was I wrong? I was wrong because I allowed my lack of faith, fear, and natural knowledge speak for me and about my sisters situation. Now I realize that I should never impose my lack of fear or faith on to another nor should I let them affect me with their lack of faith or fear.
I think about the recent teaching I received on from the passage in the bible when Jesus was in the boat with the disciples sleeping and a storm came. The disciples became afraid and they woke Jesus up and said Mark 4: 38c "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" Jesus rebuked the storm and then said Mark 4:38b "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"
Christians are notorious for telling each other when they encounter a storm that they have done something wronged, sinned, and they are being punished by God in some way. Others feel that the storm is a test of faith and that God sent the storm for you to stay in faith.
The teaching I received on this was slightly different. God didn't send the storm, the devil sent the storm. God wanted Jesus and the disciples to make it to the other side the devil didn't. God wants for us to be prosperous, healthy, happy, and whole and already sees us that way. The enemy/devil/satan's sole mission is to pluck the Word from us so that we do not walk in an operate in faith. He cares nothing about us he cares about the Word that is planted within us. For the Word is so powerful that when spoken it has the ability to bring itself to pass!
How does this tie in to my apology to my sister? My sister decided last year to quit her job due to a lot of different things happening in her workplace. Instead of me getting on my knees to pray, thanking God for her provision for he supplies all her needs according to his riches and glory, that the Lord is her shepherd she shall not be in want, instead thanking God for her immense faith in this situation and asking him to keep my own and praying that God give her wisdom in the situation. I told my sister wait until you find another job before you quit that one!
What kind of thing was that for me to say as a woman claiming to be a Christian whom walks in faith?
Not a very good one. So, I apologized to my sister for that very reason. No the road won't be easy. Yes the bible says that it rained, thundered, and stormed on the just and unjust but the difference was the foundation, our foundation should be God, Jesus, and the Word wrapped up in faith that everything in the bible is true and right and that God is faithful.

DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE?
Do You Know Who You Are?
When you were conceived and born you were....
Psalm 51:5 "For I was born a sinner--yes, from the moment my mother conceived me." (NLT)
However once you were born again and excepted Christ these are a few things that the bible says about you.....
Genesis 1:27 "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." (NIV)
Psalm 82:6 "I said, 'You are "gods"; you are all sons of the Most High." (NIV)
1 Corinthians 3:16 "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?" (NIV)
Galatians 4:4-7 "4But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, 5to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. 6Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba,[a] Father." 7So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir." (NIV)
Colossians 2:10 "So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority." (NLT)
Luke 17: 20-21 "20Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, 21nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within[b] you." (NIV)
You are a blessed Child of the the Most High God, He created you in His image and His likeness, you are a god (no not one that should be worship but consider this when a female horse has a child its a horse, when a female dog has a dog its a dog etc. so when God had children as the bible says do you not know that ye are Gods). The enemies (Satan) biggest trick of deception is to keep you from knowing who you are!
Christ said that in John 14:12 "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." (NIV) Now what did Jesus do? All the miracles he performed in the 3+ years cannot even be contained in the bible! Jesus was a miracle working, faith filled man that laid hands on the sick and they were healed and he said that we could do greater things than he?!
It is time for us to arise and walk upright with pride knowing exactly who we are and what we are capable of....I encourage you to read the Bible to learn even more about what God says about you, who you are to Him, who you are in His Kingdom, and just simply who you are.
We are spiritual beings having a natural experience!

WORDS MANIFEST
WORDS MANIFEST
Most people growing up would say what they wanted to be when they grow up. Since my middle nephew started school he spoke that he wanted to be a doctor. This year, he is entering into his 1st year of high school and he still wants to be a doctor.
A brief journey through his life....A great majority of his growing up he lived in a suburb of Chicago. Last year his mother was given an opportunity to move to Charlotte, North Carolina. She made the decision swiftly and boldly without telling too many people. There were many who said after the fact I am with you 100% but really didn't want her to move away from her family.
The grammar school that my nephew attended in 8th grade was sub par compared to the academic curriculum that he was accustomed to....but God.
The opportunity that she moved for didn't end up working out for her. My sister struggled and went back and forth with herself debating if she should return back to Chicago. Some were telling her pack your things and just come back throw in the towel you tried....but God.
Please understand this, there comes a time in your life where the only person that has the answer to your problem is God. When you truly trust Him, obey Him, and lean not on your own understanding, all things will work together for the good!
Come to find out my nephew would be able to choose the high school he attended. Low and behold Charlotte has a Medical Sciences High School for students who want to become doctors!
God is amazing...
Yesterday my sister and nephew attended orientation for his new school. All students will get hands on training while in high school working on patients. She also signed him up for a volunteer program. A representative for the program informed my sister as long as he keeps his grades up he will receive a full scholarship to the college/university of his choice!
God is Awesome
Words Manifest! My nephew said he would be a doctor some day, his mother affirmed it by speaking it as well, so did I and others in the family.
When you speak be it positive or negative, the forces of the universe go to work to bring to pass what you have spoken. Words Manifest!
Who would have new that my nephews blessing was waiting for him in Charlotte, North Carolina? God knew, my nephews name was written down in the Freshman roster for his high school before he was born! What a Mighty God We Serve!
God aligns the right situations, circumstances, and people for your life to ensure that your words manifest.
So I dare ask what have you been speaking over yourself and your children?
Proverbs 18:21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Romans 4:17 the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.

Does Your Neighborhood Have More Fast Food Restaurants than Grocery Stores?
Recently, I was driving home and I began to reflect on what I saw. There are more fast food restaurants, liquor stores, and churches in my neighborhood on the West Side than grocery stores.
There is one grocer in my neighborhood a Save-A-Lot and if I am not mistaken they do not carry fresh fruits and veggies. There is a Food 4 Less about a mile and a half from my home as well. I had to drive over 10 minutes to go to a Jewel in the Brickyard area. However there are 4+ fast food restaurants in walking distance of my home.
I think more now about the plight of African Americans, minorities, and the poor, the disadvantages and how the odds are stacked against us very early. I think what if I didn't have a car, I would either have to take a cab, call for a ride or take 2 buses to get to the grocery store.
Its a wonder why African Americans have high blood pressure, diabetes, and other diseases. Fast food is more accessible than a grocery store. So its easier to take the kids to McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, Harold's, Uncle Remus etc. than to trek on the bus to the grocery store. Then once in the store with the price of fresh fruits and veggies I see a lot of people with chips, snacks, and juice in their cart with some meats but few nutritional foods. As the saying goes when you know better you do better however, there are those that do not know so how can they do better?
To my surprise, this morning I open up the Red Eye and read the article "Chicago's grocery quest." The title on the front page Chicago's Food Desert. The article states in 2006 Chicago-based researcher Mari Gallagher mapped areas in the city where fresh produce was scarce when compared with fast-food locations. On the city's West Side: a Pete's Fresh Market, expected to open this fall at Madison Street and Western Avenue, according to Charles Poulakis, a spokesman for Pete's holding company. "This is an area that has not had a grocery store inn 40 years," Sullivan said. "So to get that store there is a huge achievement."
I disagree that it is a huge achievement for the area. In the last 5/10 years the area has drastically changed. What was once known as Rockwell projects that covered the area from Van Buren to Madison, and from Western a few blocks East ward was torn down and replaced with multi family unit apartment buildings for low income and working families. Nevertheless there are also condos and homes that have been built in that area. Just East of Western off of Madison are 1/2 million dollar town homes. So I don't see Pete's as an achievement I see gentrification in action and the response to those middle/upper class residents with the need of a grocer in their neighborhood.
I think of Michael Jackson's song and the words they don't really care about us. We have to start taking care of each other and ourselves. We have to take a stand and take the veil from over our eyes. It is not enough for you to get a college degree and leave the neighborhood behind with a good riddance attitude. Once you have achieved you need to reach back, educate, and advocate for those who cannot do it for themselves.
For those who live on the West Side, South Side or in an area populated by minorities, low, and working class families how far do you travel for fresh fruit and produce?

Relationship Wednesday's - The Committed Non Commitment!
I just had to laugh out loud as I wrote the title. The committed non commitment!
A friend of mine sent a tweet the other night and it made me want to write briefly on this topic. She spoke on a man that is partly with a woman, doesn't want to make the full commitment but doesn't want the woman to date other people. No the full commitment isn't marriage this is simply a discussion of putting a title on it and dating exclusively being in a committed one-on-one relationship in an effort to determine where the relationship may lead.
Many women have found themselves in that predicament, dealing with a man that wanted to do his own thing yet wanted to dictate what she does. Now the guy would say with his mouth we are not in a relationship you can do whatever you want to do while at the same time giving hints and clues that there will be an issue if you choose to date someone else.
Ladies this does go both ways. Women know good and well they aren't in a relationship with the man but they want to flip out if they find out he has been spending time with another woman. The woman will usually justify her actions with excuses, well he hasn't spent any time with me I just want him to spend time with me and more importantly the majority of the time they just want him to come sleep with them. To concerned with whom he's been sleeping with because he hasn't be sleeping with you.
So a lot of women have found themselves in committed non committed relationships. I believe the main reason why they find themselves there is because they opened their legs first and asked questions last! Now feelings and emotions are involved and the woman is expecting a relationship from a man who has no intention on being in a relationship with her.
Which leads me back to the tweet....I don't want you but I don't want anyone else to have you.
Who cares what the man wants? Why is it really your concern what he wants?
WHAT DO YOU WANT?
It is about you as a woman/man and what you are looking for and deserve. Don't be deceived or misled into thinking temporary pleasure and momentary instances of act right constitute a relationship. As a person don't feel that you need someone else to fulfill or meet any of your needs especially when you know deep down in your heart the "relationship" is not healthy.
Understanding that all people are looking for, longing for or desiring love. Lets just make sure we aren't looking for love in the wrong places! Be real with yourself and your situation. Don't paint a fairy tale or a dream live in reality.
If you desire to be married or be in a relationship.....run from The Committed Non Commitment!
Ladies we are more than what is between our legs, there is more to offer than what is between our legs. Sex is a major component of any relationship yet it was meant to be a seal of love between 2 people whom love each other. Not as a tool or device by which a woman gets a man to do things that she wants him to do. Its time we start loving ourselves more and teaching other women to love themselves as well. Sure no one wants to be alone at night yet how many nights/day/events/holidays do you find yourself alone being in a committed non commitment?

Sharing Your Dreams
We have all dreamt of something and wanted to see it come to pass. Or we have a vision of something we would like to do and accomplish in the future. Some of us run to tell our parents, friends, co-workers, someone close and maybe some who aren't that close. Usually because we are excited and just have to share it with someone.
Then it comes out of nowhere from someone you've told. You want to do what? How? With what? That seems impossible, or they may just begin to laugh at you.
Now if you aren't a strong person you may bow your head in defeat and forget about your dream. This constitutes a great majority of people. An idea is placed in your head that is so radical you can barely believe it yourself and then you go tell someone else who probably has not had the courage to live out their own dreams. Why the shock and hurt that they aren't supportive of you?
Everyone who is around you isn't for you. Those who aren't happy with themselves and their self-growth will have a difficult time genuinely being happy for you.
Therefore be careful whom you share your dreams with. It was your dream for a reason. There is no need to go around telling anyone who will listen what your future plans are. They will see the manifestation. Sharing your dreams can drudge up some ugly attitudes in the people closest to you.
Take the story of Joseph in the bible. He had a dream that his brother would bow down to him. He woke up and told them immediately. Now him being the youngest brother telling his older brothers, their response was to sell him into slavery and then tell their father he had died. In the end his brothers did end up bowing down to him and Joseph went through a lot of things before that happened (Genesis 37-50). Nevertheless, as it says in the bible Genesis 50:20 As for you, you meant evil against me, God meant it for good!
The great part of Joseph's story is that when God places a dream in your heart no matter what others day they can not stop the manifestation of it. The only person who can stop you from fulfilling your dreams is YOU.
What God has for you is for you and only you. Believe it, Receive it, and walk in your Inheritance. Speak those things that be not as though they were.

FAITH FRIDAY'S - BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH
FAITH FRIDAY'S
Ephesians 2: 8-10 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Hebrews 11: 3 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
Do you have Faith?
Do you really, really have Faith?
What are you hoping for?
Are you hoping for a house, new car, marriage, children, new assignment (job)?
Are you looking at the economy? Are you focusing on the recession?
Are you thinking about the act that you haven't been on a date in who knows when?
Are you buying into the hype that the more education you have as an African American woman the less likely you are to get married?
Or the fact that you are over 35?
Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen! So stop trying to figure out in the natural what God and Jesus have already completed in the spiritual. By grace through faith you have been saved, there is no amount of work that you could do that would qualify you for anything that you have. You were qualified and justified when Jesus died on the cross.
What you can do is exercise your Faith and go forth with a spirit of expectancy as you are a co-heir with Christ. That means everything that Christ has you also have you just have to have the FAITH, CLAIM IT AND POSSESS IT! How do you do that? Focus on God, meditate on His Word and speak His Word only daily and apply it to your life, be a doer of the Word!

Relationship Wednesday's - The Definition of Dating
I think the meaning of dating got lost somewhere for a lot of people and confused with other things. Admittedly I am guilty of this myself nevertheless it is never too late to start over and get it right!
So here is Wikipedia's definition of dating:
So here is Wikipedia's definition of dating:
Dating is a form of courtship, and may include any social activity undertaken by, typically, two persons with the aim of each assessing the other's suitability as a partner in an intimate relationship or as a spouse. The word refers to the act of meeting and engaging in some mutually agreed upon social activity. Traditional dating activities include entertainment or a meal.
Courtship/Social Activity - Dating should begin as a courtship with social activities. Two people taking the time to get to know one another to determine if the are compatible and suitable for one another. The obvious depending on whom approaced whom is that there is a physical attraction.
With that said that doesn't mean one should quickly act on the physical and jump into a sexual relationship with someone they have courted/socialized with. Why? Because it is important to asess the other's suitability as a partner in an intimate relationship or as a spouse. Keep in mind intimate relationship does not mean sex. Sex and intimacy are two different things you can have sex and have NO intimacy. You can have intimacy and not have sex however intimacy is important for a healthy sexual relationship.
If you find yourself sleeping with guys and then dating them halt and do an about face. Why? Because relationships that start off that way rarely end up in a walk down the aisle (if that is your desire). Also because you will confuse enjoying sex with a person for actually liking the person. Why? Because you all didn't date you engaged in sex!
So court him and allow him to court you. Keep in mind his goal may be to court you straight to bed and score a goal. As I think about it it may be your goal to get him in the bed. Just be mindful of what your long-term goal is and stay true to that. So you may have to exercise self-control and restraint.
Dating again means to court and socialize with someone of the opposite sex. So yes, you can date more than 1 person at a time. The purpose of dating again is to determine if you can see yourself in a relationship with the person. If there are no sparks and you don't see a future. Move on to the next one, no harm no foul as all you did was court one another and socialize outside of the bedroom sparing all involved headache and pain.
If you date and you find someone whom you think is suitable for a relationship. That is when you choose to date exclusively and enter into a relationship with them. This still doesn't mean however that its time to go all the way.
So to all my single ladies embrace dating and learn the difference between dating, relationships, and simply engaging in sex with a man. Trust me that your heart will appreciate it later.....
Next week....Confusing friends with benefits with a relationship!

Chris Brown...Fan of Foe
Chris Brown graced the stage at the 10th annual BET Awards Sunday, June 27th 2010. He performed a tribute to Michael Jackson. When it was time for Chris Brown to sing Man In The Mirror, he was over come with tears to the point that he was unable to sing the song. The crowd at the viewing party I attended as well as the audience at the show seemed to embrace him.
I overheard one lady say if Chris Brown came out with an album tomorrow I will buy it. As many know or if you do not know. Chris Brown was unable to perform at the BET Awards last year after the untimely death of Michael Jackson due to the controversy surrounding him and his criminal case involving Rihanna.
It seemed at that time that everyone turned their back on Chris Brown. Friends of mine have stated he is a woman beater I don't like him.
So I ask the question after a person has served their sentence should they be forgiven and given a second chance?
Media, critics, and the general public were very hard on Chris Brown especially considering no one to this day knows exactly what happened outside of Chris Brown and Rihanna and that 3rd party called nothing but the truth.
We shall wait on pins and needles to see if Chris Brown's career has been resurrected? Are you a fan or a foe?
