Who are you? Why do you do what you do? Why do you live
where you live? Why do you buy the
things you buy? Why do you dress the way
you dress? Why do you wear make-up, weaves, fake nails etc. if any at all? Why
do you make the choices you make?
This blog is inspired by the comments made my LA Clippers owner, Sterling. Many people including those in the AA
community were in an uproar because Sterling made “racist” comments about “black”
people. While driving to work listening
to the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, Rickey Smiley made a very good point. Sterling
was having a conversation in the privacy of his own home.
Who are you in private?
Would you want everything you say or do in private to be released for
the public?
What does that have to do with identity? A lot, Sterling is
80 years old, which means he was born in 1933, he grew up in a different time
and a different era. Do I believe he
doesn’t like black people, absolutely not.
Do I believe he didn’t want his side piece bringing and associating
herself with black people, absolutely.
For those with children, don’t you tell them not to
associate with certain people? What is
your motivation for doing so?
Now let’s get to the identity piece of it all. AAs are trained not to love or like
themselves. Society as a whole is trained not to like themselves as they are,
that is how the beauty industry makes so much money every year. They have convinced us that we are not enough
as is, we need extra help with creams, lotions, pills, potions, hair, nails,
polish etc., whatever they can come up with to convince us we are not enough as
is.
For the AA it is even worst.
Not only is the beauty industry convincing many they are not enough, AA
are not represented well in any form of media, magazine or print. AAs are not represented well in history books
either.
SO what do we end up with?
A group of individuals who do not know who they are, therefore they do
not fully love or like themselves as is and what do people with low confidence
and self-esteem do? They seek outside
approval. That is exactly what is still
going on.
AAs cannot believe
that in this day in age people still don’t like them or would say something
racist about them. Well, AAs also prove
day in and day out that they do not love themselves and they even shun those
whom do not fit the description of what a “black” person is. AAs themselves differentiate between “blacks”
and “niggas”. The self hatred amongst
AAs is so real, it’s shocking so many were upset that someone else would hate
or not like them.
Sterling was born and bred in the same system and from the
same system that has went through great lengths to teach AAs self-hatred. Why then would an AA be shocked when the
system proves it is working?
So, I leave you all the way I began….
Who are you? Why do you do what you do? Why do you live
where you live? Why do you buy the
things you buy? Why do you dress the way
you dress? Why do you wear make-up, weaves, fake nails etc. if any at all? Why
do you make the choices you make?
WHO ARE YOU? WHAT IS YOUR IDENTITY?
Peace, Love, Joy, Abundance, Health, Happiness, Success, and Vitality, Namaste!
