Loitering for a Reason

The article in today's Red Eye Loitering for a Reason caught my attention and I wanted to share some of it and also ask some questions......

How and some Uptown neighborhood residents plan to take back their streets. A brawl broke out on the corner in the Uptown area involving a group of you men, drawing police and emergency vehicles.

So, a group of residents got together on Friday night and united for positive loitering because they are sick of the gangs, the drug dealers, and the prostitutes.

“Experts say tactics such as positive loitering are indeed effective as long as residents can keep up the momentum and stay committed. In many cases of violence, such as the fatal fight near Fenger High School on Sept. 24, residents are left feeling vulnerable and powerless. When they work together, the experts say, they can regain a sense of control over their neighborhoods.

Chicago’s community policing director, Phillip Hampton, said “Absolutely it works. It is both prevention and intervention. It also allows residents to feel empowered against crime.”

Do you think this will help combat violence in their neighborhood? Do you think this would work in neighborhoods that are high crime areas?

Be a blessing and be blessed,
