I spoke with someone recently about their employment search. They said that if they read a job description and they cannot do everything in the job description, they don't apply for the position. They also said they aren't confident when it comes to those things.
Now it is understandable in certain situations not to apply for a position for example, I am a Recruiter, great at administration and could be trained to do many administrative things. I am not a medical assistant or a nurse, I wouldn't apply for those jobs. However, to shy away from a position because 1 or 2 things on the job description you haven't done, isn't wise or necessary.
One of the best things to do is to apply for the position and determine the amount of time that will be spent on the things you feel you cannot do. If that is 90% of the position maybe you should re-think continuing in the selection process, however, you decide what is best for you. What if it is only 5% of the job function? One has missed out on a great opportunity out of fear and lack of confidence.
If we only attempted to do the things we could already do few of us would be doing much of anything. Imagine saying, no I'm not going to get on the bike because I don't know how to ride it, or I'm not going to skate because I can't. How can you if you don't try, practice, and learn?
I shared with my friend this, the job description is never all inclusive. You've worked positions and did things that weren't on the job description, well they were under the and all other duties as assigned. So why not give it a try, lack of confidence? That is simply fear, perfectionism is fear in disguise. Fear has a hold on so many people and it holds them back from their destiny.
Be confident, be bold, take action, walk in faith.
Peace,
Love, Joy, Abundance, Health, Happiness, Success, and Vitality,
