Wellness Wednesdays - The Silent Killer

Stress is a silent killer.  Many experience stress, actually we all experience stress in some form.  Stress is virtually an unavoidable phenomenon, however, how we deal or cope with stress is what matters most.

Few take into consideration their emotional well-being when they think about health and wellness.  Our minds, spirit, and body need to de-stress just as much as they need proper nutrition and exercise.  Exercise by the way can be a great form of stress relief.

Stress comes in many forms from worry, fear, lack of sleep, lack of money, bills, unhappy work environments and more.  Yet, few seem to talk about or even address stress.  Children experience stress as well, the pressure to fit in at school, keeping up with their studies, pleasing their parents etc.

We all experience stress.  How can we cope? How do we keep stress from killing us?  Some ways to unwind and reduce stress that we recommend are:

  • Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Tai Chi
  • Proper sleep
  • Good nutrition - healthy diet full of raw fruits and vegetables and real food grown from plants, not made in them!
  • Avoid drugs and alcohol
  • Talk to others about what's going on with you however be solution focused
  • Take a break - tune out, phone off if only for 5 minutes, make a cup of tea, sit outside in the grass, take a walk on the beach, read a good book, take some deep breaths

Finally if necessary, seek professional help if you feel you just can't cope.
