Parents, Build your childs Spirit, Don't Destroy

The more I learn about me, life, and others, the better woman and mother I become.  Its a work in progress but I'm making a conscious effort to change and see things more clearly.

Yesterday, my son wanted to go to Taco Bell, he saw a commercial so I obliged, when we got to Taco Bell, I was singing an old R&B hit and my son turned down the radio.  I turned it back up, look at him and said in a nasty voice "don't touch my radio!"  His expression immediately changed, he appeared sad.  At that very moment, I chipped away a piece of my child's spirit!!  He then looked at me and said, I thought we were going through the drive through.

My son was being considerate and thoughtful, I was been an a--hole!!!!!  I immediately apologized BUT an apology would not have been needed had I said in a nice, loving way, son why did you turn down the radio?  Because guaranteed there will come a time when I or someone do something similar to him and he may snap.  Why because that is what he is learning from myself and other adults.  You can jump the gun, mess up, and once you apologize EVERYTHING is magically ok!  No, how about we start doing better because we know better?

This one will be short and sweet, that is just one example but I'm sure you can think of other examples for yourself, how you may have or may be breaking your child's spirit.

My hope is that my son and I have the best relationship, until I transition from earth.  In order to have that I have to be open, compassionate, and give him unconditional love.  His home should be a safe haven for him where he is loved, encouraged, motivated, uplifted, and disciplined for starters.

So each day I'm making a conscious effort to be a better woman and mother!

Be a blessing and be blessed! Namaste! Peace! Love! Joy! Self-Control! Prosperity!

Love Yourself in 2013!!!! Love Your Sisters!!!!!!

"When you judge someone, you don't define them, you define yourself."

Romans 2:1 "You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things." (NIV)

This blog was inspired by an experience I had yesterday while in the nail shop.  My NYE mani polish choice color is black.  There was a woman sitting next to me in the chair at the same time I was getting my pedi.  We both were also sitting under the dryer.  She was on the phone talking about who knows what and then said to whomever was on the phone, I saw on the news that 90% of men don't like black nail polish!  Amazingly, I wasn't phased.  She went on to say that she prefers neutral colors blah, blah, blah.  Now, it may have been no shade toward myself but who knows.  But, what if I weren't the confident woman that I am?  What if that statement made me feel ashamed or insecure?  Oddly, the woman was wearing a short hair cut, short enough where she goes to the barber and not the salon.  It's my understanding that men like women with longer hair BUT I guarantee there is a man that loves her with her short hair.  The thing is, when I leave my home I leave with confidence!  On top of that, I'm not trying to please all men, I'm trying to please my man while staying true to me.  Different men like different things, there isn't a one size or one model fit all.

For all of us women, it is time to love ourselves, love our sisters and uplift and encourage them in love.  Its time to stop looking at one another with judgment and start looking through the eyes of understanding and compassion.

I'm guilty myself I see many women out and about and think what in the world, why is she wearing this or that.  Maybe because she wants to! Maybe because that's all she knows! Maybe because that is all she has!  That is ok.  There are women that are highly sexually promiscuous, instead of talking about them, think with compassion, maybe they were molested, raped, didn't feel loved growing up, something just may be there that they are searching for and dealing with in their own way.

I like Nas' song Addiction, The World is an Addiction, EVERYONE, has an addiction that they use to cope with.  Some are more destructive than others but SIN is SIN is SIN!

I think about church folk that judge the way people come to church dressed, celebrate the fact that they are there, embrace them, be an example, and try to meet them where they are at.  That is what you want the Most High to do for you right?  How long have you been going to church and reading the Word, and struggling doing things that you know you aren't supposed to be doing?

My daily devotion this morning included this message, "clean up your own house before trying to minister to other!" Once you get your house in order, that doesn't make you perfect, nor should you get on a pedestal of high and mighty BS, you should be grateful and thankful and minister in love, with the fruit of the spirit!

When you see a sister, compliment her, speak words that will uplift, encourage, motivate, inspire, or simply make her smile.  Even if it is a simple Good Morning, have a great day!  No need to be concerned with what she's wearing, what she has or doesn't have, how she looks, etc.  Unless she looks like she needs some help.

We must first respect ourselves and respect each other if we want men to respect us.  Respect must be earned, commanded, and demanded by being respectful to oneself!

Be a blessing and be blessed! Namaste! Peace! Love! Joy! Kindness! Self-Control!

Fructose, Over Eating, Brain Activity and Weight Gain

Brain image study: Fructose may spur overeating | Yahoo! Health

This is your brain on sugar — for real. Scientists have used imaging tests to show for the first time that fructose, a sugar that saturates the American diet, can trigger brain changes that may lead to overeating.
After drinking a fructose beverage, the brain doesn't register the feeling of being full as it does when simple glucose is consumed, researchers found.

LOVE YOURSELF IN 2013!!! BE OPEN MINDED!

So many of us are closed to new things and ideals.  I know plenty of people that say things like "I've never heard that before!"  Ok, so what does that mean?  There are hundreds of countries in this world, how many have you visited? There are many different cultures and races of people, how many do you interact with regularly?  Are you open minded to their way of life?

The majority of us will answer no to these questions and few of us have traveled to more than 5 countries, yet alone attempted to learn about the culture while there.  Trust me the life on the resort or hotel is nothing like what the people truly experience.  Case in point, visiting your home city and staying in the downtown area or in a suburb is not like actually being in the city, well at least not Chicago!

Being open minded gives you the ability to try new things, learn about new things, and sometimes it allows you to realize that what you've thought or believed is not true.  I think that is the most scary part of being open minded, people are afraid of change, people are afraid to question their own beliefs and ideals, people are truly afraid to grow.  They say they want to but rarely step outside of their comfort zone.

The bigger issue is FEAR, we FEAR the unknown, FEAR change, FEAR being challenged, FEAR questioning things.  FEAR is something however, that we have been taught.  You were not born with FEAR.  You were born with instincts and intuition that help you recognize danger but FEAR is learned, whether you FEAR heights, dogs, swimming, there is a reason somewhere behind it.  Often times the fears of our parents become are FEARS.  Think about how many times your parents or someone said, oh no don't do that, momma is afraid or dad is scared for you?

Scripture says, "the Most High did not give you a spirit of FEAR!!!!".  (Side note, whether you are a Christian, Atheist, Muslim, Buddist, etc.  there are many things in the bible, qu'ran etc. that are universal laws, they truly have NOTHING to do with RELIGION, its ok to pick it up and read it, take what you can from it and reject what you don't believe!  As the basis of all RELIGIONS at its core is LOVE, PEACE, HARMONY, etc.).

At the same time however, religion, has made many CLOSED MINDED.  That is not, nor was the purpose of religion.  Yet, religion has created in many a superiority complex and segregrated people.  Many religions or sects of religions came about because someone didn't agree with a belief/ideal, someone or a group were left out, or money was involved.  Meaning those who didn't fit in or agree started their own thing just for them!!!!!  Many people believe in a religion but have never taking the time to study it and understand why they believe, its simply because their parents did or that is a part of their race/culture.

There is something to be learned from EVERYONE, from the pimp to the pusher to the preacher in the pulpit, the buddhist, yogi, muslim, you just have to be OPEN to it.  Yes, I said the pimp and pusher.  People think differently and do things in their life based on their thoughts, beliefs, and even feelings.  It's ok because we are ALL different and unique.  I liked when a Pastor said, when the Most High made you he broke the mold.  The world would be boring if we all thought, acted, and did EVERYTHING alike, except LOVE of course.

Being open minded doesn't mean you have to incorporate the new things you learn or come across into your life or change your way of thinking, it does mean that you embrace and accept that YOUR way isn't the ONLY way, nor is it the BEST way FOR ALL, and that if a certain ideal, belief, or way of life and thinking works for someone else that is ok.  No need to judge, compare, or compete.  Just embrace the fact that there isn't ONE WAY of LIVING that is right for all, except LOVE :-)

Be open minded, research information, learn something new, try something new and different and encourage your children to do the same.

Be a blessing and be blessed! Namaste! Peace! Love! Joy! Happiness! Self-Control! Kindness! Properity! Health!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!

If you are reading this you have survived another year on the Gregorian calendar!!!!!  There are 365 days in this year for you to do whatever it is you like.  What will you do today and for the rest of the year?

Have you made resolutions?

Set goals?

Revised your vision board?

Do you have a vision board?

What will you try this year?

Where will you travel to?

Will you save more and spend less?

Will you judge less or not at all?

Will you compare and compete with others or only yourself?

Will you find peace in the most chaotic situations?

Will you be happy?  Someone sad that happiness is a man made term, they're not happy but they have joy.  That statement was very interesting to me.  Each of us are free to believe and feel however we like.  When I looked up the word joy, I found the word happiness in the definition.  So I ask will you be happy?

No food in the refrigerator, but are you happy?

Not enough money to pay your bills, but are you happy?

No money for gas in your car, but are you happy?

Children messing up in school, but are you happy?

You're single and desire marriage, but are you happy?

HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE! Everyday you CHOOSE your mood and your reactions to whatever outside stimuli you encounter.

With that said, what are you CHOOSING for YOURSELF for the NEW YEAR?????

Whatever you choose today is the day to get it started.  Then take it one day at a time.

Whether you brought in the new year in church or religious service, at a club/party/gathering, sleep, etc.  The new year is here and so are you.

MAKE THE BEST OF IT!!!!!!!

Be blessed and be a blessing!  Namaste! Peace! Love! Joy! Prosperity! Health! Kindness! Self-Control!
